Impressive Intellivision…

As briefly mentioned in another post; I picked up a new baby for the collection earlier this week, a nice golden shiny Intellivision.

Obviously the games are very basic, what do you want from 1981! :)but the machine also came with the Intellivoice add-on.  It is very impressive, for it’s early years. I had a quick bash of Space Spartans.

I’ve put an MP3 of the voice synth in a dropbox for those interested. Listen and love 🙂

EDIT: A few pictures added: a separate shot of the Intellivoice module, as you can see it had a through-port for the cartridges, and some box art from the games I have, again these are quite impressive for the time.

A great post mate and would love to see more, fancy posting any video footage? I really like to the photographs too, I bet you had fun taking those.

I had no idea the Intellivision had a speech cart and after hearing those quintessentially retro samples, I WANT ONE 🙂

      Thanks mate 🙂
Added a few more pictures for you, including the Intellivoice module and some rather cool box art. Will try and get a video done at some point 🙂
I think the Intellivoice only works with certain games; It would have been nice to be able to create and manipulate your own speech, but I’m not sure you can :/

Oh, and I think I’ve realised the huge problem with modern day games consoles: not enough wood-grain paneling 😀

  3. Man.. that speech add-on rocks! When listening to it I feel like I’m trapped in some old-school sci-fi movie. 🙂 Thanks for a great article mate!
