Oh and… Jet Set Willy is back :)

Wow! 2 posts in 1 day, just like a bus service you never see one for ages and then 2 come along at once =)

Okay, had some great fun today dusting off a new/old 48K rubber keyboard ZX Spectrum. One of the aforementioned recent fleabay wins saw me nab:-

3 x 48K Rubber keys (1 boxed)
2 x ZX Spectrum 128K – 1 grey and 1 black
2 x ZX81’s
couple of joysticks, power packs and all the leads required.
All for about £70 delivered, which I thought was cool.

So anyway, my twitter buddy @Hi7ch pointed out that it was possible to convert speccy TZX files to MP3’s and kindly sent me Jet Set Willy as an example of the conversion.
The conversion software can be found here: http://code.google.com/p/otla/
It actually creates a ‘turbo’ load of said game, which took under 30 seconds to load. The beauty of it is that I loaded it from my Droid phone, directly in to the Speccy – no need to dust off the old antique tape recorders.

Here’s a picture of the setup:-

You do need a mono audio cable, I used an original speccy lead. Don’t bother trying with a modern stereo lead, it just didn’t work for me.

Anyway, now I can have just about every single ZX Speccy game on my phone, in my pocket, emulated or ready to upload directly in to the beautiful machine itself.

So that’s it… great fun!

Enjoy 8D

  1. Hi there Smuggsy,

That is an interesting solution for loading games on a real ZX Spectrum. You’ll save a ton of time and you can have hundreds of titles available for playing. Great stuff! 🙂

Have fun with the ZX! 😀
